Income Tax – No departmental appeal to Tribunal for amounts less than Rs 2 Lakhs

The CBDT has decided that from next month appeals with the Tribunal will be filed by the department only if the tax effect is more than Rs. 2 Lakhs. Similarly the ceiling for High Court is Rs. 4 Lakhs and the Supreme Court is Rs. 10 Lakhs. However these limits do not apply in cases where a substantial question of law is involved or cases where the same question of law will repeatedly arise.

Will CBEC follow CBDT and issue similar directions?
