Sunil Shetty’s Hummer car in DRI custody
THE Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has Suniel Shetty’s car for evading Rs 35 lakh in customs duty on his Hummer - which it seized yesterday. Sunil claims he is innocent, but DRI does not think so. He got the car on May 13th for a price of Rs 70 Lakhs, but he returned it to his agent in Delhi as the windshield was broken and the papers were not in order. According to the DRI this is one of the cars imported under the EPCG scheme without payment of duty. It seems the UK exporter Intercep has said that his company had nothing to do with Sunil Shetty. But a look at their website gives a different picture. Sunil says his agent is in his Delhi, but Intercep says it sold the car through its agent in Mumbai. Intercep has proudly announced in its web site that they had the honour of selling a car to Sunil Shetty. The date of sale of course matches. Sunil says he got the car on 13th May and the Intercep website confirms that. Obviously Number 13 is bad! Incidentally that website shows pictures of two more cars shipped to Mumbai. May be DRI can start investigations on the whereabouts of those and some more cars which Intercep must have sold in India.
