For twelve years, from 1 December 2004 to 30 December 2016, closing at TIOL-DDT 3002, this column read each day’s notifications, circulars and judgments, said what they meant, and put questions to the Board when they made no sense. It ran unsigned, in an editorial “we”, though every word was Vijay Kumar’s. And it kept the department’s own hours: every working day, twice on a Saturday when a Budget demanded it, never once on a Sunday. The calendar below has no Sunday column because it never needed one.

The month holds the Saturday bulletin of 17 March 2012: “Special Budget 2012 Edition”.
The headlines need little annotation. Take March 2012: cotton exports “prohibited again” on the 6th, CBEC instructions on the 7th, the ban “to be lifted” on the 12th and lifted “but with riders” on the 13th; after the Budget, “Corrigenda Galore”, and the next day, “continued”. Inside, bulletins grew from about three stories in 2005 to eleven by 2015. Most days carried the Legal Corner case digest, sometimes a DDT Cartoon, and the sign-off “Until Tomorrow with more DDT”. Of 3,002 bulletins, 2,986 survive; 16 remain to be recovered.
