Disobedient IRS – angry FM – Let FM be angry, we will not move!
In - 22 08 2006 we reported the FM’s directions that officers under orders of transfer should get relieved immediately and if they are not relieved, action would be taken against the disobedient officer as well as his controlling officer. But there are still some officers for whom the Board, the FM and the Rules simply do not matter. As the Board’s deadline of August 31 has expired, it is anybody’s guess as to what the Board is going to tell the FM about officers who are not yet relieved. When you cannot enforce an order, what is the purpose of issuing it?
It seems this malady is not unique top the Revenue department. NDTV has reported that 16 IES officers in the Finance Ministry working in the same post for more than 10 years have been recently transferred, but taking a cue from their IRS colleagues, these officers refused to move. Is the FM helpless against these tough bureaucrats?. It seems 6 of them are working in the Planning Commission and Dr. Ahluwalia is aware of the transfer. Does that make things difficult?
