PC ON HIS WAY OUT
While many interest groups want so many things from the Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, it is almost certain that he is on his way out. As rumoured he may not go to to Home but may prefer the more fiscal oriented Commerce ministry where he had proved his mettle earlier. In any case he along with Science Minister Kapil Sibal constitute the PM's think tank on legal affairs. As the Sangh pariwar gives way to the Singh pariwar, it is most likely that former RBI Governor C. Rangarajan will succeed Chidambaram. After all he shares a common experience with the Prime Minister - that of autographing currency notes of the country. But there is a hitch. How to get him into Parliament? Well, nominating him to the Rajya Sabha will be a good bet but can nominated members be made ministers? Incidentally there is already a former RBI Governor in Parliament. N. Ram of the Hindu is also likely to get into Rajya Sabha, but the PM is not in urgent need of a journalist minister.
