Certainly not a great achievement or a great event for us to celebrate or to boast about, but certainly an important milestone in our long journey with faltering steps though. This certainly gives one a little right to make a few immodest personal remarks. Editorial columns of news papers are supposed to be so impersonal that the first person singular is taboo. The editorial wisdom (or the lack of it) has to be couched in third person and indirect speech. Similarly our judicial language is also in third person, may be because a case as his genesis in third degree methods. It is always “the appellant/petitioner submits” never “I/we submit”. I don’t understand why it should be so but there should be some solemn reason. Actually I should say, “it is not understood”, not “I don’t understand”. Correspondence in government offices is also of the same language. Government officers are experts in the use of indirect speech that over the years they have lost the power to communicate directly. This may be one of the reasons for all the litigation and ultimately the language of litigation is also indirect. Why can’t we talk and write simple easy language to understand and direct speech?
When Taxindiaonline started DDT, I had no clue as to how we were going to sustain day after day of tax dosage. Almost everyday I was sure that I would not be able to write the next day’s DDT.
