And discharge your duty liability by 31st March 2007
The department is a bundle of contradictions! The same Commissioner by Trade Notice No. 05/2007 dated 10.3.2007, clarified that
It is learnt that some of the banks may not be offering their services from 27th to 30th march 2007 and 31st March 2007. You may advise the assessees of your association to keep this eventuality in mind and make suitable arrangements to ensure that Central Excise duty liabilities for the month of March 2007 are discharged on or before 31.3.07.
If the Commissioner is not sure when the duty is to be paid, what can the hapless assessee do? If the department cannot assist the assessee, the least that is expected from them is that they do not confuse the assessees with contradictory instructions.
