Service tax - Nokia asked to pay for consultancy work abroad
It was not Nokia’s day at the Tribunal. Nokia India Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of Finnish cellular equipment maker Nokia, has been ordered by CESTAT to pay service tax on consultancy services offered by it to the parent company's clients.
The Tribunal held that services provided by the company to clients abroad were technical assistance and consultative in nature and not merely maintenance and repair services. The demand is around Rs. 3.4 Crores. We will bring you the judgement soon.
