Crew baggage can be loaded and unloaded at Panaji but what about other places?
The CBEC has amended Notification No.62/94-Customs (N.T.) to allow Loading and unloading of crew baggage at Panaji port. But there are several ports through which imports and exports of only certain goods are allowed. Obviously the crew coming to these ports will also bring baggage, the loading and unloading of which will be illegal. Bahabalpur in Orissa is a port only for unloading of fertilisers and obviously crew baggage cannot be unloaded here. There are other ports like Dabhol, Ranpar, Vadinar, for specific commodities. And there is the classic example of Vizag and Kakinada which, we are not tired of pointing out, are illegal ports all because the Board does not bother to issue proper notifications!
