Mr. PC! Give me a PC – at least a loan to buy one
A Senior Tax Assistant in Central Excise from Guwahati wrote to us,
In today's world one is very highly motivated to have a personal computer of his own. Be it for earning some extra bucks or for developing his knowledge or skill. But the present General Financial Rules does not allow a person below the rank of a Group-B officer to get some loan from the Central Govt. Department to purchase a Computer. A Group-C non-executive (ministerial) staff like me is very upset not to find any provision for loan in the General Financial Rules for purchasing a Computer.
Therefore, I request Hon’ble Finance Minister to please re-consider and reduce the criteria of eligibility from Group-B to Group-C (executive/non-executive) for loan for Purchasing a Computer in this budget to bring it to the reach of a poor-paid employee like me.
This is something the Government should seriously consider. If an employee wants to buy a computer, he should be immediately given a loan. And as suggested by our friend, the low paid employees need the loan more than the well paid ones. Incidentally the Computer advance eligibility is Rs. 80,000/- for government servants. This must have been fixed twenty years ago, when a computer did cost a fortune. But now the advance can be thirty or forty thousand rupees.
A fool and his money are soon parted the rest of us wait for the Income Tax department.
