92 Year Old Rail Budget Subsumed in General Budget
THE presentation of separate Railway budget started in the year 1924, and has continued after Independence as a convention rather than under Constitutional provisions. The Union Cabinet yesterday approved a proposal of the Finance Ministry for the merger of Railway budget with the General budget. With GST, the General Budget itself will lose its steam.
Any one may so arrange his affairs that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which will best pay the Treasury; there is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes.
