Madhu Koda - a rare Success Story
Madhu Koda is all of 38 years of age and had been Chief Minister of Jharkand and is alleged to have stashed away Rs. 4000 Crores, almost one fifth of his State Budget. Seventeen years ago, the Jharkand politicians were the cheapest to buy in India and they were so innocent that they would deposit their sale price in the nearest Syndicate Bank. But now they also seem to have learned the tricks of the trade.
In Karnataka the BJP government is in trouble, because some ministers have more money than the State. If there is scope for 4000 Crores in a small state like Jharkand, imagine the possibilities in larger States. One fifth of the state budget in Andhra Pradesh would be 20,000 Crores and if somebody had been Chief Minister for five years, it is a mind boggling one Lakh Crores. With this kind of money, you don't need elections; you can buy your way into the Chief Minister's Chair! But that really doesn't happen and that is the greatness of India.
