Customs and Environment : Protecting Our Natural Heritage – WCO to Honour Customs Officers

Given the importance now attached to environmental issues by the entire international community, the World Customs Organization (WCO) has decided to dedicate International Customs Day on 26.1.2009 to the environment with the theme “Customs and the environment: protecting our natural heritage” as this will provide Customs administrations with an ideal opportunity to highlight the role they play in protecting the environment.

The WCO has decided to honour Customs officers who have demonstrated their dedication to environment protection through exceptional acts. The selected officers will be awarded a WCO Certificate of Merit.

So the Board has asked the Chief Commissioners to send nominations of suitable Customs officers working in their zone along with recommendations and brief background about the exceptional work performed by the officer in the above area including vigilance clearance by 05.12.2008 to Shri S. Dutt Majumder, Director General, Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence, New Delhi.

Maybe they should honour an officer who has not used paper during the last year – the Board would clearly fail.
