<b>Operations in Non-Resident External (NRE) Accounts by the Resident Power
of Attorney Holder</b></font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">RBI has decided
that, banks authorised to deal in foreign exchange may also permit a resident
power of attorney holder to remit, through normal banking channels, funds
out of the balances in NRE account to the non-resident account holder provided
specific powers for the purpose have been given. The remittances under power

<br>
Beedi Cess has been enhanced to rupees four per thousand of manufactured beedis,
by way of cess for the purpose of the Beedi Workers Welfare fund Act, 1976.

Cabinet approves SAARC Agreement in Customs matters</font></b><br>
<br>
The Union Cabinet gave its approval for signing on behalf of the Customs Administration
of the Government of India the SAARC Agreement on Mutual Administrative Assistance
in Customs matters. <br>
<br>
This Agreement will help in obtaining reliable, quick and cost-effective information
and intelligence on a multilateral basis for the prevention and investigation
of Customs offences and the apprehension of Customs offenders, in the SAARC
Region. <br>
