Thank you netizens for your support.</font></p> <p align="center"><font color="#006633" size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>Cabinet approves accession to Kyoto convention</b></font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The Cabinet today approved Accession to Protocol of Amendment to the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (Amended Kyoto Convention) adopted by World Customs Organization (WCO) in 1999. <br> <br> The convention aims to </font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">• Eliminate the divergence between the Customs procedures and practices of Contracting Parties that can hamper international trade and other international exchanges;<br> <br> • Meet the needs of international trade and the Customs for facilitation, simplification and harmonization of Customs procedures and practices;<br> <br> • ensure appropriate standards of Customs control;<br> <br> • enable the Customs to respond to major changes in business and administrative methods and techniques,<br> <br> It was visualized that the amended convention <br> <br> • must provide that the core principles for such simplification and harmonization are made obligatory on Contracting Parties to the amended Convention; <br> <br> • must provide the Customs with efficient procedures supported by appropriate and effective control methods; and <br> <br> • will enable the achievement of a high degree of simplification and harmonization of Customs procedures and practices which is an essential aim of the Council, and thus make a major contribution to facilitation of international trade,<br> <br> It is hoped that this would reflect better India’s resolve to facilitate international trade and would give positive mileage at international fora. It will eventually facilitate international trade and enhance global economy, without compromising on the revenue, control and security functions of the Customs. <br> <br> Accession formalities will be completed in 2005. The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for establishing the Armed Forces Tribunal under Article 246 of the Constitution of India, as per the Armed Forces Tribunal Bill, 2005 for the adjudication of complaints and disputes regarding service matters and appeals arising out of the verdicts of Courts Martial of the uniformed personnel of the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Bill will be introduced in Parliament shortly.</font></p> <p align="center"><font color="#006633" size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <b>US Customs Chief resigns</b></font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> The head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Robert Bonner announced his resignation after overseeing the agency's transition to a front-line component of the war on terror. Bonner had taken over the day before 9/11. - "That began my challenge to secure America's borders from terrorists and other criminals without choking off the flow of legitimate trade and travel, which is so vital to our economy," he said. Though reasons for his resignation are not available, it is known that he was at odds Homeland Security Secretary on control of civil air patrols over Washington area between Customs and Coast Guard. </font></p> <p align="center"><font color="#006633" size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>Contempt charge against Customs Commissioner</b></font></p> <p align="justify"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">A Vacation Bench of the Supreme Court by an order directed a Customs Commissioner to appear before the Court in person on October 2 to show cause as to why contempt proceedings should not be drawn against him for not releasing seized goods as directed by the High Court..
