Due date for filing of electronic quarterly statements of TDS and TCS for the quarter ending 30 June, 2005 has also been extended from 15 July, 2005 to 31 July, 2005. <br> <br> <a href="http://www.taxindiaonline.com/RC2/inside2.php3?filename=wnew/itnot.htm">CBDT’s Section 119(2)(a) order in F.No.385/35/2005-IT (B) dated 17.6.2005</a><br> <br> <font color="#006633"><b>Income Tax Rules amended<br> </b></font><br> The Government has amended the Income Tax Rules to specify certain forms and consequential changes mainly regarding contractors and certain projects. <br> <br> <a href="http://www.taxindiaonline.com/pdfnoti/pdfcbdt/pdf2005/it05not163.pdf">NOTIFICATION NO. 163</a> and <a href="http://www.taxindiaonline.com/pdfnoti/pdfcbdt/pdf2005/it05not164.pdf">164/2005, Dated: June 17, 2005</a><br> <br> <font color="#006633"><b>Toward Electronic Customs – International meet in Tehran</b></font><br> <br> The second international customs and information technology conference dubbed `Toward Electronic Customs' will be held in Tehran on July 13-14, 2005 to discuss assessment of electronic customs and its role in the national economy, lawful infrastructures, standards of global customs administrations etc,.<br> <br> Under the present circumstances, the World Trade Organization (WTO) expects the customs administrations of various states to provide tradesmen with facilities and guarantee the safety of goods.<br> <br> <font color="#006633"><b>Tsunami Aid heavily taxed in Sri Lanka</b></font><br> <br> 25 Mahindra Jeeps made in India landed up in Sri Lanka as aid from British relief agency, Oxfam. They got stuck in Colombo port for nearly a month as the Customs demanded a duty of 300% on the imports. When Oxfam officials tried to reason with the government, the Ministry of Finance offered three options: pay the duty, re-export the vehicles or hand them over to a ministry of their choice. So Oxfam had no choice but to pay up not only the duty but demurrage of 5000 dollars per day – all for bringing in aid for the tsunami victims.
